Compilations of memories and life histories by attending and distant volunteers

Mary GarrisonJune 2010 was my retirement after forty years of teaching.  The first two of those years were Peace Corps years for which I was given teaching credit.  Since then I have taught elementary grades for ten years, middle school social studies for fourteen years, and ESOL as a resource teacher for fourteen years in the Pasco County, Florida school system.  I earned a MA degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) at St. Michael's College in Vermont.

As a single person, I enjoy keeping up with my eight nieces and nephews and now twelve grand nieces and nephews with number thirteen due in October.  I share my home with Ellie the cat.  I enjoy the calming effects of knitting and reading.  I work out several days a week at the gym.

Florida has always been my home with summer escapes to western North Carolina.  I own my parent's mountain house outside of Franklin, NC where I do some hiking. I have enjoyed traveling during school holidays mostly in the US. Occasionally I have leapt out of my comfort zone to experience adventures in Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Peru, Japan, Australia, Spain, Italy, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, England and two return visits to Morocco.I have also been part of a choir that travels to perform at cathedrals and other halls in Europe. Next year will be to the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
