The NPCA Embassies Program features Morocco

The NPCA Embassies Program will strive to bring about a greater understanding of the world, as well as strengthen the friendships between RPCVs and people from our countries of service.

The Embassies Program will take place in a different embassy or other venue each month focusing on embassies of countries where the Peace Corps has served. Each program will explore a current issue or topic in the featured country from the areas of politics, economics, business, the arts, culture and/or society. Each presentation is followed an informal reception hosted by the embassy.

SOLD OUT The NPCA is very pleased to announce the Kingdom of Morocco as our first country of focus. The Embassies Program event will take place Wednesday March 12 at 7.30pm at the Residence of the Ambassador. The event will highlight Moroccan traditional music with Sounds of Morocco’s Mystique. The program will feature the Abdou El Filali Orchestra performing Moroccan traditional music, including Berber and Andalusian styles. These masters of violin, oud, tablas, and tomba will present a selection of vibrant and melodic songs passed on through the centuries. This event will also include a reception featuring an array of Moroccan delicacies. This will be an intimate gathering, so space ! is very limited.

His Excellency Mekouar expresses his enthusiasm for the event, “This will be a great occasion to further the friendship and understanding between our people.”

In celebration of Gambian Independence Day as well as African American History Month, the February Embassies Program will be a special event with the Embassy of the Gambia featuring a fascinating discussion with Anthropologist Joseph Opala (Sierra Leone ’74-’77) who will present The Gullah: The African American Connection to West Africa.  This event will take place on Gambian Independence Day, February 18th at 7pm at the American Red Cross, 1730 E Street, N.W. in the Ballroom located on the second floor.

More exciting Embassies Program events to be announced in coming weeks. From Central Asia to Central America; Eastern Europe to Eastern Africa, the NPCA Embassies program invites you along on an exciting journey each month. Don’t miss it!
