BARBARA DURR
COUNTRY DIRECTOR
PEACE CORPS/MOROCCO

Barbara Durr was appointed as Country Director in Morocco in January 1998. From 1990 to 1997, Barbara worked for Community Economics Corporation, a Washington, D.C-based firm specializing in microenterprise and community development. Through her work with CEC she served as the Technical Advisor to the Microenterprise Pivot Group in Mali from 1992 to 1996, and as Microenterprise Coordinator in the Office of Market Development and Investment for the Africa Bureau at USAID from 1990 to 1992. She has focused on institution building and self-governance of local organizations and communities as the cornerstone to development. Ms. Durr also has considerable experience as a teacher and trainer, having taught English and math in a community college. Prior to returning to Peace Corps, she worked as a consultant to Non-Governmental Organizations and the World Bank.

Ms. Durr holds two Masters degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel, one in City and Regional Planning (1989) and the other in Public Administration (1991). She was a Peace Corps volunteer from 1982 to 1985 in Gabon, where she served two years as a high school teacher and one year as an advisor to the Ministry of Education.
